About Sound School

From fieldwork and recording techniques to narrative and ethics, Sound School explores the ins-and-outs of radio storytelling.

Episodes highlight the work of both established producers like Roman Mars, Joe Richman, Chana Joffe-Walt, Sean Cole, Kelly McEvers, and Daniel Alarcón, and also features work from new producers.

Rob taught the Transom Story Workshops for ten years — both the 9-week Woods Hole course and the 1-week courses conducted around the country. Previously, he created the Radio Program at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies and directed it for eleven years. He’s taught audio workshops and classes around the country at radio stations, universities, and for national radio programs.

Rob currently produces documentaries, features, multi-media, audio tours, sound art, podcasts, commercials, and public service announcements as a freelancer.
