The Sonic Memorial

The Sonic Memorial ProjectThe Sonic Memorial Project, an intensely experienced exploration of 9/11, began in October of 2001, utilizing the Quest for Sound‘s phone line concept, allowing listeners to call in with their stories and audio artifacts relating to the September 11 attacks and to the history and life of the World Trade Center. It became a unique national collaboration between The Kitchen Sisters/Lost & Found Sound, independent radio producers, NPR, artists, musicians, archivists, journalists, historians, web designers, and public radio listeners, resulting in a powerful commemoration of a time and a place.

In 2003, both The Sonic Memorial Project and the website won a Peabody Award.
